About this deal

Before you start the game, each player must make the commitment on which horse will run in which race. We also had escalade but that was nightmare turning the handle thing to make horses move across sheet on flat unit

whatsgoodtodo.com is a trading name of Toys and Clothes Limited which is a company registered in England and Wales with company number 04638670 The Really Nasty Horse Racing Game has been around a while, having been on the market since 1987. It was one of the first board games I ever played, and nearly caused my uncle and aunt to divorce while arguing over the rules during one memorable Christmas. I finally got to play this game yesterday on my daughter's birthday. She's into horses (what little girl isn't) and loves horse racing games. She's liked playing Winner's Circle in the past with her friends when they came over. She'd had this for awhile, but she hadn't read the rules...so I did it with her (after Barnes' latest Gameshark mentioned it again) theracingforum.co.uk has been a home to passionate debate and intelligent discussion for horse racing enthusiasts since the year 2000. Some unofficial rules, which makes the game even more interesting and nasty if you have less than six players.Sarrett, Issue 2.3, Peter. "The Really Nasty Horse Racing Game". Issue 2.3, Spring 1994. Oh… My… Days! If ever there was a game that was created to bring out the worst instincts in you, make you become very devious and cunning, then it is most certainly and definitely this game. You need to be have your wits about you and your devilish devious and cunning plans need to be played to your best advantage. Forget friends and family when playing this game, you are out to win and that is your main goal. Conjure up your most devious plan as your main goal and objective is to win as much money as you can at the races and the good thing about this, there are a couple of ways to do this. Onto another favourite part of the game of mine… the set of mischief cards… oh boy did I create mayhem with the others and players in the races I am extremely competitive, think monopoly for frustration and competitiveness and times that by 10, this game really did bring the worst out it me. There are so many questions to think about when playing this game. You need to have a game plan, be devious, manipulative and sneaky, the more cunning you can be, the better the game. Can you be cold hearted, ruthless, destructive and double crossing whilst bluffing at the same time? There is also prize money awarded for each race. Some races are more prestigious with more prize money on offer. Someone will need to be chosen as the bookmaker as they will need to take control of the game. We each threw the dice and whoever scored the highest became the bookmaker. It does come down to rolling well, but there is plenty of tension and plenty to do to complicate things for others or to help yourself. We haven't even played that often, but this game is a gem.

You start the game with a stable of horses numbered from one to six, with one being the fastest. During the race the players move their horses around the board, either trying to reach the finish line before the others or attempting to make sure the horse they bet on finishes first. How fast a horse moves depends on their grade, which is assigned at the beginning of the race and gives them a certain amount of leeway with dice roles, also giving players clues on who to bet on depending on the size of the stakes. Grades revolve with each subsequent race, so every horse gets to be the fastest horse at least once. You can even buy a set that allows you to customise your Monopoly board to your own neighbourhood or your favourite TV show. Deluxe and LuxuryThe game essentially takes the skulduggery and cheating that goes on in real life horse races and applies it to a board game, making for an interesting and often bad-tempered experience for the players. How to be Nasty For 3 to 6 players, ages 8 and up. Designed by John B. Reilly and Thomas M. Divoll, published by Avalon Hill. There are things to watch: long shots can pay off hugely and if someone bets high they can really get ahead - you have to keep in mind which race is being run for how much prize money, who has how much funds they are likely to bet and trying to stop them if you can. I'm not sure that a runaway leader can be stopped once they pull off a huge bet. But they call it a long shot for a reason.

The game is played over the course of six races. Players have to rank their horses for each race, based on how well they want to perform. At the start of each race lane cards are drawn at random and odds for the horses are determined. Players then bet on the horse they think will win based on the odds. Therefore, a player may decide to bet on a horse which is not their own, if they feel it has better chances, or would win them more money. Of course, with some traditional games, it is the sheer simplicity that makes them work. For example Jenga, Connect 4 or dominoes don’t need a board and so can be played almost anywhere. You can even find giant versions of these games to play in your garden in the summer months. Many of the traditional board games have moved with the times to try to stay relevant and interesting. For example, you can now get Risk in a Game of Thrones version, Monopoly set in the Star Wars galaxy and Trivial Pursuit in a range of themes. Whilst the age range is 12 and over, I suggest being mindful at just how nasty, conniving, deceitful etc. people may get playing this game and if you are worried about upsetting any children playing, then you might not want the to join in. If like us, we did play with the grandchildren but did not play the nasty side of our strategies and was far less cunning. We wanted to the children to enjoy the game have some fun but also teach them about game plans and strategies without being too nasty or conniving. Also, for a roll and move with I found this to be a million miles above what I consider to be a real 'stinker in silk', Magical Athelete). Okay that's not a horse racing game, so that's an unfair comparison, but they are both light race games with screw you aspects. The only other horse racing game I had was the small copy of Knizia's Royal Turf, which was fun but got old fast.
